johsmitPersonally, I won’t answer my phone if I look down at my caller ID and all I see is a phone number. Call me jaded, but I’ve been pestered by unwanted callers enough times to answer my phone without looking at the caller ID first. As a business owner, you don’t want your calls to go ignored, especially if it’s an important call that reminds customers of their next appointment with you or an unpaid bill. For this reason, I am happy to report that RingCentral will be introducing one of the most requested features we’ve had so far, and we wanted you to be the first to know about it.

So mark your calendars dear RingCentral customers, because on October 15, 2009, we will be adding Caller ID Name to our growing set of features. This new feature enhances your business’ professional image by displaying your company’s name on the receiver’s caller ID. Set up is very easy, but do keep a few things in mind before you choose a name that represents your company. For example, your Caller ID Name may be up to 15 characters in length, and can only contain letters, numbers, commas or spaces, so steer clear of any special characters.

All the letters and characters are automatically displayed in uppercase form, so keep that in mind if you happen to have a company name that starts with a lowercase letter (ie, iMix, iTunes). Caller ID Name works for local numbers only at this time, and only one number will be displayed per phone system.

Setting up your Caller ID Name is very simple. Below is a set of instructions for your convenience:

1. Click on Company Settings.
2. Click on Caller ID Name on the left menu.
3. Enter the text that you want displayed as your Caller ID Name.
4. Click Submit.

Note: You may leave the field blank if you do not want to display your Caller ID Name.

NOTE: Depending on how fast the National Registry is able to update your request, it may take as long as a week before your Caller ID Name will appear along with your Caller ID Number.

Hope you enjoy this new feature, and please, don’t hesitate to email us, call us, tweet, or leave a comment with any questions you may have.
